Multispecies piano is an old piano – no longer up to our musical standards – transformed into a basis of new life: as nutrition and habitat for various organisms. Through a number of modifications, including the removal of harmful materials and the addition of specific plant species and nesting materials, an interplay is created between the dead material of the piano and the living micro-organisms, plants and animals that use it and become part of it.

I’m a biologist and artist who likes to entice people to look differently at the (natural) world and aims to make the world slightly better, prettier, and/or more sustainable. In my doctoral research in the field of biology, I studied past and present biodiversity using environmental DNA metabarcoding and realised I wanted to artistically communicate and experiment about these topics. I created this website to showcase some of these experiments.
