Ester Eva Damen is working as a filmmaker, (script)writer and visual artist. She studied art at the Rietveld academy in Amsterdam. As a director and scriptwriter she graduated at the Dutch Film & TV academy and pursued an MFA at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten. She has a teaching degree in Art History/CKV and finished a Master in Artistic Research at the University of Amsterdam.
Ester Eva Damen has set up her own method to teach writing to artists. On a regular basis she gives workshops for artists , especially for artists thinking in images or body language. Initially in Cinetol and SkyHighGravity studio, occasionally in W139, Amsterdam or Can Serrat, Spain, KHBelow Studios Berlin, these lessons currently take place in Treehouse NDSM and online. Her workshops to youngsters in art history and filmmaking took place for example at the Montessori Lyceum, Amsterdam, via Cultuur-Educatie Amstelland, Cultura or the Filmhub, North Holland.
As a coach she gives one-to-one feedback to work in progress. She has coached artists since 2013 to develop their work or find a balance in their practice or to write about their work.
Since 2007 she is the artistic leader of a small foundation stimulating cross-over projects called la Jetée after the experimental film classic by Chris Marker. She curates monthly Window_Shows in area de Pijp, Amsterdam. She has curated several exhibitions for example in Fuse, NDSM and curated film programs, for example for Studio K or the Eye Film Museum, Amsterdam.
