“My name is Joel Rieger, most people call me Joey. I’m a German artist focused on creating things that confront what is underfelt in this world. I’m aware this is different for all of us, for me it’s my sadness, but it points toward the sensitive things we all tend to hide and avoid. I see that everywhere, and I want my work to be an invitation to connect to ourselves.

After twelve years running a digital animation studio in Düsseldorf, I shifted into painting. I don’t prescribe answers; I transmute personal experience into paint. I think of my paintings less as images and more as songs: colors as melody, texture as timbre, silence as presence. I’m currently working on what I call my first visual album- pieces about my mother’s passing, the story of a lost brotherhood and things I wish for the world and us. I wish for us to surrender and realize that we are all connected.”
