Artist statement/ Inner motivations

Growing up in a family of five brothers and five sisters, it was work and no whining. Fortunately there was enough freedom of movement in the polder to roam, build huts, make rafts, jump across ditches. Because there was plenty of room to explore, I managed to make a connection with myself amidst the presence of all those bodies and characters.

How do I relate to the world that is subject to forces on different fronts. A familiar world that is falling apart. I examine paper, glass, textiles, among other things, on this vulnerability and fragility.

How to make something whole that is broken. Repairing and adjusting to make other connections. Making scars visible and giving cracks and fissures a face. Moving with the change. Change is difficult, but through my playfulness and curious nature I have learned to embrace the strange and to use different disciplines. My work interfaces with theater, photography and visual arts and is expressed in Installations and performances.
